President’s Message

New Year and a Renewed Focus on Reading!

Winter brings us book clubs, book fairs, author visits and more.

Happy New Year to you all.

As we move into January, February, and March you can’t help but be bombarded by the focus on reading at OPS…and the PTA is right there in the thick of it.  To keep up with all the activity please continue to ✔️ email blasts on Monday mornings.

📗 JANUARY: the PTA runs its Book Clubs.  Sign-ups have been strong and we hope your children enjoy the activities these committees have planned.

📘 FEBRUARY: encourage your child to use the President’s Day break to complete their 6 hours of reading for the Six Flags Read to Succeed program.  Reading logs are now completed online.  More details are available below.  The deadline for submissions is March 1st.

📙 MARCH: brings author visits during ‘Read Across America Week’.  And then the Book Fair team will round things out with their programs that run from the 17th to the 19th

That’s a whole lot of reading…

🔬 For those of you with a more science-driven skill set, we haven’t forgotten about you.  During March the PTA kicks off a series of workshops to help you prep for our first Invention Convention which will be held in March.  Sign-ups and more details about this fun new program will be available in the coming weeks.

🎨 And of course, for those of you with budding artists in your homes, the PTA will run an art contest in the coming weeks for the cover of this year’s memory book.

⏱️ Our next PTA meeting will be on January 14th at 7:30 in the OPS Auditorium.  We will choose our nominating committee and have a special prize for every attendee to bring home to their child.  You have to attend this PTA meeting to get this amazing gift for your child.

If you are looking for information about other 2019-2020 events please see our calendar as all anticipated events have been posted.

🐾 As always, please reach out to our executive team with any questions.

Happy New Year!
