Read Across America Art Contest

LAST CALL! Submissions are due to OPS by 3PM Today! OPS will host the OPS Picture Book Awards during Read Across America Week, which is the first week of March.

There are five nominees (books). Students will get to decide which books will win an award. They will be presented with the five books at school and vote on three categories:

  • Best Message
  • Best Illustration
  • Best Overall Book

Since this is new, we need help from the kids to design the awards.  They can use the template below to create their designs. The winning awards will be made into a sticker which will be placed on the winning books in the OPS library.

Submissions are due to OPS TODAY!  Good Luck!

Memory Book Cover Art Contest

It is time for our 3rd Annual Memory Book Cover Art Contest!  We were so impressed with the covers you created these past two years, we cannot wait to see what this year’s cover looks like!

OPS Explores

Introducing our new program, OPS Explores! Use the free Scavr App and sign up by using the directions below to participate.

Learn more about Oradell and its surrounding areas by visiting local spots that are safe, open and free. Earn points as a family for each location you visit (check in using the app).  The families with the most points will win a very unique prize!

So… what’s the prize?!  Our Administrative team is clearly full of good sports.  They let us slime them back in November and now they are going to take a pie in the face.  The winning families will each get three pies to use for Ms. Bozios, Mr. Hagopian and/or Ms. Hawley. These three will literally do ANYTHING to put a smile on students’ faces!

So, grab your family and your phone and check out the local spots listed!  The contest started February 4 and will go until April 1. More locations will be added as we go.  Have fun!

To sign up:

  • Step 1: Download the free Scavr App
  • Step 2: Sign up for OPS Explores here
  • Step 3: Check out the different ‘challenges’/locations in the app

Here are the current standings:

  • First Place – Wacks (3,500 points)
  • Second Place (tie) – Benyamine Family & Robots Rock (2,400 points)
  • Third Place – French Fries (1,500 points)
  • Fourth Place – The Lookout Leibos (1,400 points)
  • Fifth Place – The Cape Cod Whales (800 points)

There is still plenty of time!  The competition goes until April 1.

If you know of a spot that you think other OPS families will enjoy, please email President@OradellPTA.org. Thanks!

Volunteer Opportunity: OPS Around the World

Our Student Programming Committee normally organizes assemblies or other such events for the students of OPS.  When they volunteered, they were looking forward to adding excitement to the students’ school year.  Due to the restrictions currently in place, they needed to get creative!

They are organizing a family event for the Spring called OPS Around the World.  We are looking for volunteers who are interested in sharing their culture (or a culture they are interested in) with OPS families.  This could include a dance, sport, game, art, history, holidays, etc. Tents will be set up around the OPS grounds, one tent for each country/culture that has volunteers.  As we get closer to the event, which is anticipated to happen in May (if all goes according to plan), families can sign up to travel ‘Around the World’ at OPS.

We are excited to put this event together and we are grateful for all who are interested in volunteering.  We are only able to put this event together with your help! If interested in learning more, please fill out this form.  Thank you!

OPS Student Helpers

OPS Student Helpers pairs interested RDHS students with OPS families looking for help with their child/children.  Our team has already made many successful matches.  Please reach out if you could use some help!

This help is available either virtually or in person; OPS and RDHS families should decide which works best for them.

OPS families can complete this Student Helper Request Form if interested in participating.  The team will work to pair you with your high school helper upon receipt of your form so you can get started right away.

The PTA will:

  • Pair up potential High School Helpers with an interested OPS family based on the information collected
  • Provide contact information for potential High School Helper matches to the OPS family

At that point, the PTA will step back and families can contact the matches directly to make sure there is a fit, set their schedule, coordinate services needed, etc. The PTA is simply facilitating the recruitment and pairing of interested parties.  Please note that there is an hourly fee related to this service, this fee is to be discussed and agreed upon by the two parties involved.  No portion of this fee is going to the PTA, as this is not a fundraiser.

Thank you to Michelle del Corral for setting up and organizing this program.
